Stem separation, answered
How it works, what it costs, and what happens to your files.
- What is separ8?
- A free, in-browser tool that splits a song into separate tracks (vocals, drums, bass, and more) so you can remove vocals, build instrumentals, or remix individual parts.
- Is it free?
- Yes. Free to use, and a free account saves up to 5 sessions to come back to.
- How do I remove vocals from a song?
- Load a song, then mute the vocal lane for the instrumental or solo it for the acapella, and download either.
- Which audio formats does it support?
- Upload MP3, WAV, FLAC, M4A, and most other common formats (or paste a link). Download stems as MP3, WAV, FLAC, and more.
- Which stems can it separate?
- Vocals, drums, bass, guitar, piano, an 'other' track, and a combined instrumental, depending on the model.
- How long does it take, and are there limits?
- Most songs finish in under a minute. Tracks can be up to 8 minutes, and guest stems are deleted about an hour after processing (sign in to keep them).
- Is there a waiting queue?
- No. When you submit a song, processing starts right away. You are not placed behind other users in a FIFO line.
- Can I separate more than one song at a time?
- Yes. You can start another separation while one is still running (for example in another tab). Each job runs on its own timeline.
- What is the best free stem separator online?
- separ8 is a free browser-based option: upload or paste a link, get isolated stems in under a minute for most songs, and use the built-in mixer. Tracks can be up to 8 minutes.
- Can I split a song into stems without installing software?
- Yes. separ8 runs in your browser on desktop or mobile. Upload MP3, WAV, FLAC, M4A, and other common formats, or paste a public video link.
