Stem separation, answered
How it works, what it costs, and what happens to your files.
Product
- What is separ8?
- separ8 is a browser-based audio tool that uses AI models to split a mixed song into separate stems such as vocals, drums, bass, guitar, piano, other, and instrumental.
- Can I use separ8 without installing software?
- Yes. Upload a supported audio file or paste a public video link, then preview, mix, and download results in a modern desktop or mobile browser.
- How do I remove vocals from a track?
- Separate the song, then mute the vocal lane to make an instrumental or solo the vocal lane to hear and download the acapella.
Formats and quality
- Which audio formats does separ8 support?
- Uploads support MP3, WAV, FLAC, AAC, OGG, AIFF, WMA, Opus, AU, APE, and M4A. Available downloads include MP3, WAV, FLAC, OGG, AAC, Opus, and AIFF.
- Which stems can it separate?
- Common outputs include vocals, drums, bass, guitar, piano, other, and instrumental. Exact outputs depend on the selected model and source audio.
- Will every separated stem sound clean?
- Quality varies with arrangement, recording, compression, source quality, and model choice. Dense mixes and overlapping instruments can leave audible bleed or artifacts, so preview results before downloading.
Limits and pricing
- How much does separ8 cost?
- Guests can start free without a card, and free accounts can reach 10 monthly separations. Plus starts at $4.99 per month with 40 separations and up to 100 saved mixes; Pro starts at $9.99 per month with 100 separations and up to 300 saved mixes. Plus monthly includes a 30-day trial with a card; Pro has no trial. Compare plans at /pricing.Full plan details
- How do I get more separations?
- Create a free account to add 5 account separations each month, or open Plus and Pro from the plans dialog or /pricing for higher monthly and saved-mix limits.
- How long can a track be?
- A submitted track can be up to 8 minutes long.
- How long does separation take?
- Processing time depends on track length, selected model, source preparation, and available compute. The on-page progress log reports real stages instead of promising a fixed completion time.
- Can I run more than one separation?
- You can submit work from another tab, but jobs may briefly wait when available processing capacity is busy. Plans raise usage caps; they do not sell priority processing.
Privacy and accounts
- What happens to guest files?
- Guest uploads and stems use temporary storage for processing and playback. Guest stems normally expire about one hour after processing, with automated cleanup handling temporary files that remain longer.
- What changes when I create an account?
- An account can save completed mixes in protected storage and create durable Share mix links. Saved audio remains available until it is removed or a deletion request is completed.
- May I upload any song?
- Only upload audio you own or are authorized to process. You remain responsible for copyright, licensing, privacy, and any use of separated outputs.
- What happens if processing fails?
- The interface reports the failure and stops the job. A failed run should not be treated as a completed separation; contact support if your displayed balance appears incorrect.
- How can I ask about my data or account?
- Email separ8.app@gmail.com with the account email and request details. Do not send passwords or private audio attachments by email.
